Closing your HSBC account

General notes:

  • Fill out the HSBC « Lettre de clôture»  LETTRE DE CLOTURE NYU
  • Stop making purchases with your card 1 week before the date you wish to close your account.
  • If you wish to close your bank account before your departure from Paris, do not buy your plane ticket home with this card because you will need to use it at the airport to print out your boarding passes
  • If you have monthly payments due to Imagine-R, please note that you will have to close the bank account after all payments are due

When closing account in person at the bank:

  • Turn in the lettre de clôture  LETTRE DE CLOTURE NYU
  • You will need to turn in your HSBC debit card, which will be cut in half to prove that the account will no longer be in use
  • If you need to withdraw remaining funds in your account, you can withdraw the remaining funds at HSBC Passy (where you can only get bills back – HSBC Passy no longer issues coins) or at HSBC Mozart (where you can get back every centime!)

When closing account after departure from Paris:

  • Scan in the lettre de clôture to Chehla  LETTRE DE CLOTURE NYU
  • Cut your card in half, take a picture of it, and send the picture to HSBC to prove that your account will no longer be used
  • If there are remaining funds in your French HSBC account, you will need to include your home bank account information in order for these funds to be wired to that account. **Note that there may be transaction fees on both accounts (on your French HSBC account for doing the transfer, and on your home bank account to receive the transfer)

Airport transfer options

You have a few different options for getting to the airports of Paris.

Public Transportation to Roissy-Charles de Gaulle Airport

Purchase a ticket for €9,25.  Take the RER B to  “ROISSY/CHARLES de GAULLE.”

Public Transportation to Orly Airport

Go to Denfert Rochereau to catch the Orlybus.  You can purchase a ticket on the bus for €7.

***Remember that your Navigo cards are de-zoned on weekends and holidays, which means you can reach the airports for free on those days.

By Taxi
You may wish to take a taxi (a good idea if you have heavy bags). Please note that taxis charge 1€ extra per bag for handling luggage. The trip should cost approximately 50€. You may either wait at a taxi stand, or call ahead to reserve a taxi.  Tipping is generally expected: 10% of the fare indicated on the meter. Be sure to use a licensed taxi which you’ll find at labelled taxi stands.

By Reserved Shuttle
A cheaper alternative to a taxi can be to take a shuttle. NYU Paris has a partnership with
Paris Shuttle—you can get the reduced rate by clicking on this link:
http://www.parishuttle.com/index.php?partner=P73MOR
–Select a Shared Shuttle Transfer and you’ll be picked up along with other passengers at a
reduced rate of 25€
–Select Private Transfer and have a solo ride to the airport at a reduced rate of 64€ (you can reserve a private transfer with a group of friends and divide the cost (64€) amongst yourselves).
These shuttles book up quickly, and especially during student departure, so it is recommended that you reserve in advance. You can reserve by phone or online at http://www.parishuttle.com
